2010 Census

It's In Our Hands

The 2010 Census is here and the U.S. Census Bureau wants to ensure that everyone is counted.  Census Day is approaching so make sure you fill out the short, ten-question form that is sent to you by mail and return it before April 1, 2010.

Here are a few reasons why the Census is so important:

  • It affects the number of seats our state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the 2010 Census is really important because South Carolina could gain a 7th seat if the Census shows a large enough growth in population.
  • It allocates $400 billion of federal funding toward improving infrastructure every year.  That is over $4 trillion in ten years.  This includes hospitals, schools, roads, bridges, job training centers, emergency services, senior centers, and much more.
  • It can help companies and businesses find areas of skilled workers.
  • Participation isn't just important, it is mandatory by law!

How does the Census help benefit our community?

  • By filling out your census form you are making a statement about what the City of Georgetown needs.
  • We want to ensure that we are accurately counted so those federal funds continue to come to South Carolina and the City of Georgetown.
